Frequently Asked Questions
Who owns the station?
KDKI is owned and operated by Tamarack Community Broadcasting, a local Idaho non-profit organization.
What's on the air?
Right now, it's Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Cab Calloway, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, the Andrews Sisters, and many, many more like them. Try it, you'll like it!
I don't hear any commercials being played. How in the world do you stay afloat?
It's the law. All low-power FM stations must be owned by non-profit organizations and be non-commercial. That means we cannot accept advertising, but we can broadcast "underwriting announcements" recognizing the support from our business and individual sponsors! It also means we have a very limited budget, so we welcome your volunteer support and of course your financial support.
I lose your signal when I go through the car wash. What's up with that?
Well, we can't be everywhere, can we? We're limited to 100 watts of transmitter power, while most commercial stations broadcast at 25,000 to 100,000 watts.
Is this station the real deal?
You bet. We received our license from the FCC on October 1, 2014. It's classified as a "low-power FM" station and throws a signal 5 to 7 miles, depending on how many large, impermeable things are in the way.
What kind of transmitter and antenna do you use?
Ok, for you geeks who are into electronics, here goes. The transmitter is a BW Broadcast TX-300 V2. This is an amazing 300-watt workhorse, with monitoring and control over ethernet, and built-in 5-band audio processing. The antenna is a single-bay, circularly-polarized Nicom BKG-77.
I'd like to hear my favorite song from the 1970s played about 18 times every day. Can you do that?
Can't help you there.
Why don't you have a hip moniker for your station like "Bob" or "Kool"?
Frankly, we think it's a little strange to "name" a radio station then pretend that the guy actually exists. But, to each his own. As for being kool with a "k," we're definitely not. We're not even cool with a "c".
I'm a local car dealership; can I run a loud, obnoxious ad on your station demanding that people come see our new Absurdly Humongous Sale?
No.
How can I get involved?
KDKI is an all-volunteer station, and we need you. If you are interested in radio or hosting a show, email us.
This sounds like exactly the kind of station Twin Falls needs. Do you need help financially?
Very much. Since we cannot sell advertising, we rely 100% on contributions from listeners and business. We've tried to make the process as painless as possible, and we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so your donations are tax-deductible. Click here to donate using our secure Paypal link.
